Booking at the last minute has always been a way to save money when travelling, but in the case of hotels this can sometimes leave you with nowhere to stay. The truth is that many hotels book well in advance, and often become fully booked for the whole of the peak season. When it comes to hotels, things boil down to a tradeoff between low cost and convenient location. In many cases, especially when traveling to major cities and popular attractions, the closer the hotel to the city or attraction the more you can expect to pay. The best way to save money, particularly in large cities, is often to stay in the suburbs.

Look at how much you earn. What can you put aside for a trip? What are you prepared to sacrifice to make your trip a reality? Maybe you’ve been saving for a while and have a few thousand dollars in the bank. You do? Great. Well that’s your realistic budget.
