3* Hotel Vs. 4* Hotel, Any Difference?

When it comes to choosing a hotel while you are away on holiday you will want to be sure that the accommodations that you choose meet your standards. You will want to choose accommodations that feature every amenity that you desire and need to make your holiday everything that you want it to be.

95% of frequent travelers agree that their accommodations are in fact the most important part of their holiday. If a person chooses to stay in poor accommodations they will quickly discover that the quality of their overall vacation will greatly decrease.

That is why you must be very careful when you are seeking out a hotel. You should put a great deal of research into choosing a hotel that has a good reputation and good standing with travelers.

Choosing A Hotel Based On Star Ratings

Many travelers will make their hotel choices based on how many stars the hotel has received. In fact, many travelers won’t stay in a hotel unless it has received 4 stars.   Others will refuse to even consider 4* hotels because they believe that they are more expensive than 3* hotels. However, all travelers should be very careful when choosing a hotel based on the star ratings system.

When it comes to the difference between a 3* hotel and a 4* hotel you may be surprised to discover that the only difference between the two locations could be something as simple as having a mini-bar in each room or a restaurant on the premises. Just because a hotel has a 4* rating does not mean that it is any better than a 3* hotel.

Additionally, once a hotel has received a 4* rating it does not generally lose its rating.  This means that a hotel that received a 4* rating in 1986 may actually have received a 2* rating if it were to be rated today. This is why you should not rely on the star rating system when choosing your travel accommodations.

At one point and time the star rating system was much respected in the travel community.  However, in recent years any hotel can legally claim to be a four star hotel even if they are not.  This is why you must truly research all hotels and find out when they received their rating and which institution gave them their rating.

How Do I Determine If A 4* Hotel Is Legit?

You can determine if a 4* hotel is legit by seeking out user reviews on the hotels that you are considering visiting. Common travelers who provide reviews on hotels are much more honest than travel agencies. A traveler who had a bad experience at a hotel will have no problem telling you that they had a bad experience. Therefore, you should always seek out user reviews to discover what a hotel is really like.

There is in fact little difference between a 3* hotel and 4* hotel. You should always be careful not to make a booking at a hotel just based on this loose rating system alone. You should seek out the opinions and input of others and should make a decision based on visitor facts and reviews.

http://www.hotwire.com is great. Lots of really nice hotels for a lot cheaper than other sites, and often the same price as crappy hotels.

I have checked every site on the web (or at least most of the big ones anyway) and the two best I have found are:
    http://www.hotwire.com/index.jsp?sid=S20&bid=B256273&kid=K0000001&mid=M01
    http://travel.priceline.com/default.asp?rdr=1&session_key=420011AC5C0011AC20080330164841651bc0943022
With Priceline you have to bid but you can get some incredible prices. I got a 4 star in NYC last November for $125/night (The normal price was $450/night). Check them out and you'll see what I mean.

I am of the school of thought that if you want a generic package where you get what they have to offer and nothing else at an inflated price, then a website is the answer. If you want something specific, then you get in contact with a Travel Agent.

When you contact a Travel Agent, do not hesitate to ask for something specific as there's a very good chance that it can be granted. TRAVEL WITH STEPHEN is a very good Travel Agency, because they offer very good customer service, and the prices for most of their Travel are very reasonable.

http://farechase.yahoo.com/ is not bad for searching airlines,
as it checks a number of the sites others have listed above.

But if you're looking for a complete package air/hotel, I agree with going to a travel agent, they may not squeeze the last 10.00 of savings you might get booking the cheapest air you can find and then staying at the cheapest hotel, but then, you won't be staying at the cheapest hotel either.

The above answerer, mentioning gugshopvacations — well, that site is a rip off.

It is relative which is cheapest. You have to visit several major sites to find the best deal. You can find the list of the biggest sites on pointandtravel.com below … Coupons and specials by major sites are below that …

The best thing for you to do is check the prices on all of those you mentioned and see where you can get the best deal. You might also check out http://www.ytbtravel.com/WeWin. I've been able to help a few people find a good deal from this site. Have a good trip!

depends on where you are traveling from- Kayak.com is pretty good, but where you want to incorperate hotel and airfare I would try travelocity or orbitz- I book flights often and those two sites can save a lot of money- make sure you book them together (flight and hotel)

Also, last minute deals are great- check out those on the two websites
