DEFINITELY STAY IN HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA! The hotel is located right across the street from Penn Station/ Madison Square Garden which is also very close to Times Square. It was built in 1919 by McKim, Mead & White, They also designed The NYC Municipal building, original Penn Station, which used to stand in what is now Madison Garden, and many other US national landmarks. The hotel's architecture is the gorgeous Neo-Renaissance style. the Hotel is very affordable. there are breathtaking views of the city from the bedrooms too. Glen Miller, the famous band leader, wrote the song Pennsylvania 6-5000 about the hotel. Glenn Miller also stayed and preformed in the hotel for his Honeymoon, and numerous other times. Hotel Pennsylvania for the last 90 years has been the worlds most popular hotel after serving over 3 million guests! Hotel Penn is very clean and satisfying, and has recently been renovated. Prices range from $99 and up. The hotel has also just recently one an award for being the "greenest" hotel in Manhattan. Unfortunately the Hotel is being threatened for demolition so enjoy the hotel while you can. Even if you don't stay in this hotel pleasego and add the hotel on myspace and a facebook. If you would like to add them in myspace, their URL is http://www.myspace.com/savethehotel. On facebook, just search Save Hotel Pennsylvania. The official website of the hotel where you can learn more information on staying there is http://www.hotelpenn.com/. PLEASE HELP AND SAVE THE PAST!

I have checked every site on the web (or at least most of the big ones anyway) and the two best I have found are:
http://www.hotwire.com/index.jsp?sid=S20&bid=B256273&kid=K0000001&mid=M01
http://travel.priceline.com/default.asp?rdr=1&session_key=420011AC5C0011AC20080330164841651bc0943022
With Priceline you have to bid but you can get some incredible prices. I got a 4 star in NYC last November for $125/night (The normal price was $450/night). Check them out and you'll see what I mean.

A lot depends on when you want to go — for instance, rates during Fashion Week are crazy high, but there are some deals at other times. When are you looking to go?

We went to NYC a few months ago and we stayed at the Best Western President Hotel right by Times Square. Great rates and awesome location!!!! Alot of the reviews say this place is horrible but I can say from personal experience that this was a great place to stay if you want to do the touristy things! Hope this helps you out a bit!

Well located. The Upper West Side is where the rich and famous live. And it's a close enough walk to Central Park.

http://www.applecorehotels.com – lists 5 very reasonably priced hotels in mid-manhattan.
I stayed at the La Quinta on 32nd st. – great value, free breakfast, great location. Also, japanese buffet going east on 32 and great Korean restaurants (KUNJIP) just outside the door.
Have fun !

Well I prefer JFK, and if Jetblue is an option go for it. It is so much less hassle as they have their own terminal. A taxi is usually $45 to anywhere in Manhattan plus tolls, and you don't have to book ahead. When you leave the airport you wait in a taxi line (usually fast). The other option is the Airtrain, but honestly with 2 ppl and luggage, you'll save time and money taking a flat rate cab.The Late Show has a lottery for tickets, or for most tapings of shows you can turn up at around 4pm and try for standby, but don't count on it. Before moving here, I stayed at the Hotel Pennsylvania because it was right across from Penn Station, Madison Square Gardens, and it was affordable, clean, and large. In NY you have to think, how often will you really be in the room? Plan on taking cabs most places, its just convenient. If you're adventurous though you can access the subway map online and get an idea of how it runs, you would save some $ doing that.
And cost….. NY is grand….. you could spend as little as about $500 in a week if you eat two meals a day and take the trains, or you could spend $1 million if you so desire. It is up to you. If you like to shop, buy things from vendors, etc. plan on at least $1,500 for both of you. Manhattan is only 22 miles from tip to tip so no matter how far things are, they never are really that far. Accept that you will not be able to see everything, but make a list of the top 10 things you want to see and stick to it. If it were me…
1. Statue of Liberty
2. Central Park
3. a Broadway show
4. Times Square
5. Rockafellar Center
6. Empire State Bldg
7. Brooklyn Bridge
8. Museum of Natural History (with the big TRex skeleton!)
9. a Bagel sandwich every morning
10. ride the subway
I personally love Carmine's for a restaurant, and it is right next to Broadway shows. The portions are family style, so COME HUNGRY!
