Budget Travel - The Best Hotel Deals

When it comes to hotels, things boil down to a tradeoff between low cost and convenient location. In many cases, especially when traveling to major cities and popular attractions, the closer the hotel to the city or attraction the more you can expect to pay. The best way to save money, particularly in large cities, is often to stay in the suburbs.

Of course, this means that you will spend more time getting to the places you want to visit, and this will mean spending additional money on gasoline, etc.

It is important to compute all these costs to make sure that you will really be spending less on a less convenient hotel room.

There are of course a number of ways to save money on hotels and motels without compromising quality.

For one thing, a membership in AAA or a similar auto club also entitles you to discounts on hotel rooms, as does military service and senior citizen status. When inquiring about a hotel room, always inquire about discounts that may be available.

In addition, shopping early for a hotel room can often yield the best deals. That is because hotels often reserve a block of low cost rooms, and when they are gone they are gone.

Thus the last room at a hotel may be much more costly than the first. Getting the best hotel room deal is often a matter of timing.

Of course getting a great deal on a hotel will mean nothing if the place is a dump. Shopping for a budget hotel should not mean settling for a hotel that is dirty, poorly run or in an unsafe location.

Fortunately, finding a good budget hotel has been made much easier with the help of the internet. What used to take weeks or even months to research can now be done in a matter of hours or even minutes.

Many hotels, even budget properties, feature pictures of the property and the surrounding area, so be sure to research the property you are considering if you have never stayed there before.

It is important to research the area in which the hotel is located as well. Be sure to check out things like restaurants and attractions within walking distance of the hotel.

Doing some research on the area will help ensure you do not end up staying in a dangerous neighborhood just to save a couple of bucks.

The internet also provides a number of review sites where those who have stayed in various hotels share their experiences and their impressions of the hotel properties.

These review sites can be very useful for travelers, particularly those traveling to a new location for the first time.

In addition, the internet hosts a number of comparison web sites where travelers can easily find and compare hotel properties for their individual dates of stay and destinations.

These web sites offer a number of ways to search, including distance from a particular tourist attraction, price, star level and more. The only caveat to consider when using such a web site is its independence.

Some comparison web sites feature only properties that pay an advertising fee, so using a comparison site does not necessarily guarantee the best price. It is best to use a number of such web sites to get a true picture of the lowest prices available.

Im not sure how much that is in euro lol….but if yooure on a budget, theres lots of ways to save money
*Avoid dining out or buying drinks in the centre….very costly
*Hotels are expensive so id recommend B&Bs….youd probably prefer the atmosphere anyway
*Rent a car or take the public transport….buses/trains are reasonably reliable and much more commonly used here than in the states

I think the guided tours are your best bet if you want to see the "sights"….it might seem a little commercial…but if you go out on your own, you will probably miss out on some good attractions and you can get some kind of "tourist pass" once you arrive in Dublin Airport

Dublin (and the east coast) is a very different "world" to the west….so
Dublin is the place to go for the art galleries, city tours and of course the nightlife!maybe spend some time in both?

For a great night out, you wont get better than Temple Bar ((its where all the best bars are,,,,very expensive though)
    Id Recommend
Dorans (GREAT live music and food)
    21's
    Reds
    The Viperoom
    Whelans
Theres alway great music in Tripod….it a lovely place too

    Bars aside,
    You can visit Dublin Castle
the Dublin Spire is on O'Connells Street (extremely overated but very tall lol)
Depending what youre into, theres lot of museums and art galleries such as the National Gallery and the Irish Museum Of Modern Art, most of which are free or just a small fee.

    Phoenix Park…..with the zoo!
    Grafton Street/Henry Street (for shopping!)

    ALSO ON THE EAST COAST
    its not all urban!
Im from Wicklow (which is just south of Dublin
its really nice there also, and i recommend it if you want "scenic" stuff….its known as the "garden of Ireland" here…
You should defo visit "Glendalough"….its a national Park and the views are breathtaking (as well as the monuments ect)
Also, in Wicklow, you could visit Powerscourt Gardens or Powerscourt Waterfall. These are in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow and VERY worth a visit on a nice day
    …………………………………..
If you plan more time and really want to experience "old" ireland, i think you should go to the West (fly to Shannon Airport)
in fact, if youre looking for a "green" holiday on limited time, id recommend you JUST stay West….you wont be bored!
    ….Try County Clare
i have family who live in a town there called Ballyvaughan….and its absolutely beautiful
There, i think your best bet is to stay in a thatched cottage and visit the little pubs and restaraunts by the sea – theres often live music.
Theres also lots of cool scenic things there too.
The burren (take a look at the Dolmens, theyre incredible!), the Ailwee caves, The cliffs of Moher.
Theres also a "birds of Prey" sanctuary near the Burren – worth a visit.
.The people are SO friendly there and so proud of the County- the accents are crazy too lol.
Theyre very welcoming to tourists so you'd fit right in!

Have a great trip when ya get around to gettin here!

Start with researching family friendly area's. And Family means, parents with their parents, parents with young children, and family with teenagers.

There are people who like camping and people who like hotels. Try to come up with different packages that would meet the needs of both.

I don't know how travel agents make their money but think out of the box … contact taxi's and buses … trains …. Talk to camp grounds, set up camping tips, or money saving tips online …. picnics, preserving food, choosing hotels with kitchens over going out ( so families can spend more on something else) ….. Create a website that helps people get something from you, even if they don't pay …. the word will go out and people will come to your site.

Then you can sell ad space, suggest books, write articles. One of the things that I have been looking at is yoga for families, rating trips for families, there are even parenting courses that have the parents bring the children for a week, while the parent goes to classes the child does activities …. this is a great idea …..

    good luck

Try to find a job to do on your trip. Something legal that will pay for a hotel room.

San Diego, California. Warm weather outside of Hawaii, friendly people, beautiful beaches. What more could you ask for? San Diego also has Sea World, the world-famous San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park (filled with gardens and museums), Legoland, the Wild Animal Park, and great restaurants. Disneyland in Anaheim is also within driving distance.

You could stay at the Hotel del Coronado, which is beautiful, or go for a slightly less pricey hotel in downtown San Diego. The hotels in Mission Valley are way cheaper but not as nice as the ones in downtown, so it's a tradeoff between price and quality, in my opinion. Get the best travel deals in the usual places – Orbitz, Travelocity, and Expedia. Use sidestep.com or qixo.com to compare fares. Happy traveling!

You know, I bet the shared bathroom won't bother you as much as you think. For one thing, you have a sink in your room at Hotel 17, so you can clean your teeth and wash your face in privacy, at least. That means you'll only be using the bathroom to…well….go to the bathroom (and you presumably use public bathrooms all day, anyway, so there's no big deal there) and take a shower in the morning.

And really — even taking a shower isn't so bad, provided you've got some good flipflops to wear in there and a nice big towel to cover you up on the way to and from the place (you might consider bringing your own — or even a robe.) I've stayed in tons of places with shared bathrooms, and at first was sure I'd be horrified, but really it's hardly a big deal at all — the worst thing, actually, is staying in a place with a shared bathroom AND a shared room (youth hostels, for instance); at least with your own room, you just need to get back there, and then you can strip off and change in private. I always found the worst part of sharing a room having to struggle to put my clothes back on in a cramped shower cubicle, or change under my towel back in the dorm. (Plus, if you've ever showered in a gym or a health club or a spa, you know it's not a huge deal.)

So don't worry — it's not as though you're going to be at your hotel all day anyway (right?), and you're going to be in the bathroom even less! Take comfort in the fact that you've found a great deal, a centralized location, and that you can spend the money you're saving on seeing more of New York (which is really the point, right?)

Not sure if you've checked out IgoUgo.com yet, but their New York page is very helpful — reviews and pictures of places to eat, things to do, places to stay, etc. — and there's a fairly favorable opinion on Hotel 17: http://www.igougo.com/lodging-reviews-b163035-New_York-Hotel_17.html

I'd say you picked a good choice — enjoy it!

    Holly
