Are you used to letting a travel agent plan your travel itinerary for you? Well you are definitely missing a lot because part of the fun of going on a trip is doing all the planning. If you are currently in the process of planning a trip, then take this opportunity to start looking for the best rates on accommodation and airfare without having to sacrifice comfort and enjoyment.
If you are planning to take a trip to Asia then you can start planning not just by buying travel books and maps but by simply going online and researching on the different places that you might want to visit. It is important that you take note of how far the airport is from the city center and the famous sites of your chosen travel destination. You need to take note of the proximity of each site when it comes to choosing a hotel so that you won’t end up wasting time and money in transportation when it comes to going to and from these sites.
While the most popular thing to do when it comes to looking for a hotel is to check out the ones located at the city center, this is not really the best place to look at if you want cheap hotel deals.
Instead, check out the hotels located at the other parts of the city, while some may be lesser known, there are also some five-star hotels that can be found in the outskirts of some city. These hotels usually take advantage of either special sceneries that can be found in the outskirts of the city or the peacefulness of being away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. Believe it or not, a lot of travelers still prefer to stay in these hotels given that they do not want to ruin their vacation by being surrounded with so many people and so much noise.
So when you are doing your online search for cheap hotel deals, make sure that you do not simply dismiss the lesser known hotels or those that are not located at the city center. Just take note of the location and start researching on how you will be able to go around the city and to the sites from the hotel that you are interested in.
Other ways to score cheap hotel deals by making use of technology is by booking ahead online. Always be on the lookout for offers and discounts on accommodations especially early in the year and try to plan your vacation for during the off season for more savings not just with your accommodations but in your airfare as well. Always remember that when it comes to scoring cheap hotel deals, technology has made it so much easier- thanks to computers, the internet, even mobile phones and PDAs. As long as you can get access to the internet then planning a vacation will definitely be a breeze.
Help answer the question about travel hotels deals
Anyone have a copy of the WSJ article from a few days ago about the last minute hotel deals? and the websites? There was an article in the wall street journal i think in the travel section last week (5/22/07-5/25/07) about websites that advertise and sell the excess hotel rooms at the last minute from expensive chains that are under occupancy or during off peak times?
There were maybe 2-3 websites I wanted to keep and I mistakenly threw out the article.

I just got back from DC yesterday. We bought hotel tickets through priceline.com. Stayed at a four-star hotel for $88. It was approximately 15 minutes away.
As far as sightseeing, most of your monuments are within walking distance to the White House. Don't forget to check out the Vietnam Memorial between the Lincoln Memorial and the White House. Very sobering!
Have a blessed trip!

http://www.hotwire.com is great. Lots of really nice hotels for a lot cheaper than other sites, and often the same price as crappy hotels.

I have checked every site on the web (or at least most of the big ones anyway) and the two best I have found are:
http://www.hotwire.com/index.jsp?sid=S20&bid=B256273&kid=K0000001&mid=M01
http://travel.priceline.com/default.asp?rdr=1&session_key=420011AC5C0011AC20080330164841651bc0943022
With Priceline you have to bid but you can get some incredible prices. I got a 4 star in NYC last November for $125/night (The normal price was $450/night). Check them out and you'll see what I mean.
