I often use Priceline to book my hotels and I get an excellent rate. I often book VERY safe 4 star hotels in Midtown Manhattan, right in the center of the city for $80 per night.

There is a website which explains all about how to book through Priceline's "Name your own price" program. You may want to check it out and follow the instructions to get the very best deal. If you want a cheap, safe hotel the best way to go is with Priceline's name your own price program.

Look at the online services. I had my wedding at the Roosevelt and the last minute on line process was cheaper than the wedding rate they gave us.

i just went in june and my mom and sister took me…we decided ALL hotels were really expensive…even the nasty ones! so what we did is we went to http://www.vrbo.com and we looked at apartments people rent out to tourists..and we rented one two blocks down from the empire state building and it was so much fun! it was a funky little apartment…and we stayed for four days and ended up paying way less than we would have for a hotel. i would go with renting an apartment…way cheaper. and it actually felt like you were in new york living…rather than visiting..it was so much fun! you get the feel for new york more if you stay in a rented apartment. check it out for real!
